Getting Organized- Part 2. The Coffee Station That Changed My Life

A few weeks ago I came across a link for a "coffee station" that some brilliant woman had linked up to one of the parties I visit every week.  I honestly thought I had bookmarked the page but can't find it anywhere.  Which is a crying shame because this is a fantastic idea and it's certainly not mine.  So here's to the smart lady, wherever she is, that helped me see the light at the end of the coffee pot.

Time to share how life normally looks here on Cottonwood Lane every morning around 7:30 a.m.  I try to get up before the boys to give myself a minute to breath.  I'm lucky that they're good sleepers, but still....mornings are rough.

Normal Coffee Routine

Empty pot and coffee grounds from the day before, rinse and fill coffee maker.  Dig through cupboard that holds coffee, tea, and various other silly things.  Watch as silly things fall to the floor while I'm trying to locate the coffee.  Dig through cutlery drawer for coffee spoon.  Spoon coffee into filter (thankfully I went to a filter-less model years ago).  Dig through dishes for favorite mug.  Rescue from dishwasher, wash and dry.  Wait for coffee to brew.  Listen to boys call out because I've been so noisy in the kitchen and they're now awake.  Drink half a cup of cold coffee after boys have been changed, diapered, dressed and fed.  Wonder why I'm so disorganized and when I'll ever get a full, hot cup of coffee again.

So if there's anyone that needs a coffee station, it's me and I set about to putting one together last week.

I brought a silver tray up from the craft room.  I buy these little guys in bulk from thrift stores.  They're so useful and pretty and I use them everywhere.

I also dug out some Martha Steward chalk board labels that I'd been saving until I organized my cupboards.  I have a tendency to save hoard craft supplies for "a special occasion".  I think this counted as a special occasion.

I used a lidded jar from the dollar store, stuck my little label on it and we have a coffee jar that I don't mind looking at.

Not sure why "coffee" looks smudged.  I think it's my camera.

Then, while I was grocery shopping, I found two mugs from my local supermarket in a size that I felt would get me caffeinated enough to start the day.  They were $4 each.  Love how big they are and the cute polka dot design.

I took the coffee spoons and plopped them in a little mason jar and they, along with one of the mugs, sits on the little silver tray right next to the coffee maker.  I can't believe such a little thing  could make such a difference.

That's it.  Oh.  And I started cleaning out the coffee maker and loading it up again before I went to bed.  Now all I do is press the button when I come into the kitchen.  I seriously feel like I've found the answer to the meaning of life.  It must be all that caffeine buzzing through my system.

New Coffee Routine

Press button.  Pour coffee.  Drink two whole cups in total peace and quiet!

Sharing this life altering plan with everyone I party with including Coastal Charm and The Shabby Creek Cottage.

  4. Got your comment and I am so sorry that you had trouble linking up to my party. I had a handful of y'all, having trouble this week and I really don't know what is causing this to happen. I did check your back link and it works...so it should be okay. I might try to remove the back link for next weeks party and see how it goes.

    Blessings,
    Linda

  5. I love my coffee station. We use a machine that grinds the coffee just before the water drips through. There is nothing like a great cup of coffee.

  10. I hear you on the cold coffee! Great job. I used to leave for work at 6:15 so I did everything the night before so I could just hit the button, pour and walk out the door. It definitely helps in the morning. I need to get back in that habit. Cute mugs too. (saw you on Tatertots and Jello - I am before you #777)
